We’re still very proud of our Generation One Pocket Classics, and we quite regularly get asked whether we have any of them still in stock. And whether we can make any more?
The bad news is that these cars are out of production now and they all sold out, but we do occasionally have the odd customer who might be looking to move on to a new model and sell their old one, so do keep your eyes peeled on the website.
In terms of chassis and handling, the Generation One cars were quite different to the current models. As tributes to the Porsche Speedster, Jaguar E-Type and Mercedes 300SL they were rear-engined and came in electric or petrol (gasoline for our friends across the pond) versions. A little smaller than the modern cars, they did have disc brakes but no suspension to speak of – instead they relied on lower pressure tyres and rubber bushings to give a level of comfort. And they had their own driving style – with the weight focused at the back and a solid rear axle, they tended to move round a bit and could be more challenging to drive on a wet surface. Or fun, depending on your point of view.
Anyway, we thought we’d share some images of the Generation One cars, and please do get in touch if you’d like us to keep our eyes open for one.
